The Department of Mathematics & Statistics in the College of Science & Engineering seeks a dynamic colleague committed to fostering teaching excellence and student development in a program that values creativity, collaboration, learner-centered pedagogy, and diversity. The new faculty member will join a collaborative group of 22 mathematics, statistics and mathematics education faculty who serve the entire campus community.

We seek applications for a full-time, tenure track Assistant Professor of Mathematics Education position to begin in fall 2017. This position offers an excellent opportunity to explore innovative ideas with regard to the education of teachers of elementary through secondary mathematics. The successful candidate will be expected to teach 9 contact hours per semester to undergraduate and graduate students and maintain an active research agenda as manifested by supervision of graduate students, scholarly publications and grant writing. Primary teaching responsibilities will be teaching mathematics content courses for preservice and in service teachers and supervision of graduate students; neither methods courses nor supervision of student teachers is expected. Other duties include service (both internal and external to campus) and developing partnerships with K­12 mathematics.

The Department of Mathematics & Statistics in the College of Science and Engineering strives to educate students at the University so that they are prepared to use mathematics intelligently in their chosen fields of study and to understand mathematics as it affects their lives and participation in public affairs. The Mathematics Program provides its majors and graduate students with preparation for careers in education, science, and commerce, as well as providing a solid foundation for further study in mathematics. Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Mathematics Education and a Master’s degree in a mathematical field or the equivalent,
• A research agenda in some area of mathematics education,
• The potential for effective classroom instruction, and

• Ability to collaborate with colleagues.

Preferred Qualifications

• Breadth and depth of mathematical knowledge,
• Experience with grant work or writing,
• Publication in scholarly journals,
• Experience in teaching K­12 public schools,
• Working with diverse student populations at the college level,
• Implementing instruction with manipulatives and technology in a learner­centered classroom, and
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
